Women's Service

WARNING! COVER YOUR TRACKS...CLICK HERE TO FIND OUT MORE.

Essex Change offers a service to women who have experienced domestic abuse and whose (ex)partner has been referred to the perpetrator programme.

This service is free and is available regardless whether your (ex) partner completes the course.

Our associated Women’s Safety service is aimed at increasing women and children’s safety. By enabling women to explore and make sense of their experience of domestic abuse, we can help to increase their control over their own lives by:

Proactive contact

We make proactive contact with every woman whose (ex)-partner is a client of Essex Change. This is done through sending her an information pack and through making every effort to reach her by telephone.

Follow up and priority contact

We always try to stay in touch with women by calling them at regular intervals. When we have specific concerns for the safety of a woman or her children we immediately prioritise that call and do everything in our power to minimise the risk.

I’m not sure I want to get involved?

You do not have to. The women’s safety officer services are voluntary and whether you accept the service or not does not affect your partner or ex-partner’s suitability assessment outcome. However the women’s service is highly recommended.

WARNING ! HOW AN ABUSER CAN DISCOVER YOUR INTERNET ACTIVITIES

E-mail:

If an abuser has access to your email account, they may be able to read your incoming and outgoing mail. If you believe your account is secure, make sure you choose a password that an abuser will not be able to guess.

If an abuser sends you threatening or harassing e-mail messages, they may be printed and saved as evidence of this abuse. The messages may constitute an offence.

History / cache file:

If an abuser knows how to read your computer's history or cache file (automatically saved web pages and graphics), they may be able to see information you have viewed recently on the internet.

You can clear your history or empty your cache file in your browser's settings.

  • Netscape: Pull down Edit menu, select Preferences. Click on Navigator on choose 'Clear History'. Click on Advanced then select Cache. Click on "Clear Disk Cache".
  • On older versions of Netscape: Pull down Options menu. Select Network Options, Select Cache. Click on "Clear Disk Cache".
  • Internet Explorer: Click on Tools menu, select Internet Options. On General page, under Temporary Internet Files , click on "Delete Files". Under History click on "Clear History."
  • AOL: Pull down Members menu, select Preferences. Click on WWW icon. Then select Advanced. Purge Cache.
  • Mozilla: click on Tools menu, select Clear private data. Then Click on clear private data now.

This information may not completely hide your tracks. Many browser types have features that display recently visited sites. The safest way to find information on the Internet, would be at a local library, a friend's house, or at work.
